About

It all started in the year 2000, when Ben tried his hand at chainsaw carving. Knowing that he would not be able to carve forever, he started to mill some of the better logs as a sideline.

After 20 years of carving, the time came to put the chainsaw down and focus more on the timber sales. From this evolved Treecycling, table-making, and timber sales.

Treecycling Evolved

In 2019, Treecycling evolved and is now a husband-and-wife team known as Ben and Nokomis.

We run a sawmill and timber yard, specialising in making hand-made bespoke tables, chopping boards, and other timber-related products all made from trees that we have salvaged and saved from becoming firewood or wood chips, all sourced within our local area of a 50-mile radius from our Suffolk-based yard.

Our Timber

We choose which specific trees we want to work with, and once collected, they arrive at our timber yard, where we use our sawmill to cut each log into specific ways for the end process.

All our timber is air dried, and each tree we receive once milled goes through a process of being stacked and left for years, depending on the thickness. A rule of thumb is 1 inch thickness for 1 year, 2 inches for 2 years, 3 inches for 3 years, and so forth. Once dried, we move it into our workshop.

What we do and why

Wood is our passion; it’s what we enjoy every day.

Working with wood on a daily basis is a great feeling. Each day is different, and no two pieces will ever be the same.

It is widely known throughout the industry that 90% of the hardwood used in the UK is imported, which has ultimately given rise to a lot of invasive insects that are harming our own trees.

By Treecycling timber, we are helping to protect the environment in more than one way. We are saving trees from being used for firewood and being chipped for the biomass industry, which ultimately releases tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere. We are also limiting (all be it small) the amount of imported timber that comes in on the big diesel-powered ships and helping our native trees to sustain themselves.

We take great pride in the timber that we process. We mill them with their intended use in mind. Some are milled specifically for wood turners, wood carvers, furniture makers, musical instrument makers, hobbyists, and DIY projects.

We take pride in what we do, and we want our customers to enjoy working with the timber as much as we do, as well as people knowing they are helping to do their part for the planet by using sustainable and locally sourced timber.
